Gennady Zyuganov will lead the Russian Communist Party in the forthcoming elections to the lower house of parliament, the party said on Thursday.
State Duma elections have been slated for December 4, 2011. Russian parties can currently only get win in the Duma if they receive a minimum seven percent of the vote. The government has discussed lowering that limit to five percent.
He did not confirm the party's other candidates.
The Communists currently hold 57 seats in the 450-seat Duma. The ruling United Russia party has 315 seats.
