Muscovites got stuck in long traffic jams on Thursday's international Car Free Day, an analyst at the Yandex.Probki online traffic portal said.
The Moscow authorities urged motorists to leave their vehicles at home and use public transport or bicycles instead.
Transport prices were halved to encourage motorists to abandon their vehicles for a day.
According to Yandex.Probki, the biggest traffic jam was on the 100-km long Moscow ring road. It also said traffic congestion was worse on 2010's Car Free Day due to heavy rain.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin has pledged to eliminate Moscow's traffic jams. President Dmitry Medvedev has said he will personally oversee the efforts.
