A court in New York sentenced on Friday a graduate Saudi Arabian student to 15 years in prison for murdering a U.S. professor, HuffingtonPost.com reported.
Abdulsalam al-Zahrani confessed in May to stabbing to death 77-year-old Richard Antoun, an emeritus professor of anthropology and expert on Middle East cultures.
"Prosecutors said the 48-year-old al-Zahrani had come to believe Antoun was part of a plot against him and attacked the professor in his office in 2009," the Internet newspaper reported.
A psychiatric expertise of al-Zahrani showed that he was schizophrenic, but mentally fit to stand the trial for the murder of the professor, who had been helping him with the studies for many years.
After al-Zahrani serves his 15-year term he will be deported from the United States to Saudi Arabia.
