On Thursday, five missile units launched a heavy attack against “the mock enemy’s critical targets” from Iskander-M theater ballistic missile systems, Tochka-U tactical ballistic missile systems, and Smerch multiple rocket launchers.
During the second phase of the exercise, an independent motor rifle brigade of the 41st Army defended its positions against attacks from the mock enemy while awaiting reinforcements from the 2nd Army. In this way it prepared the ground for a subsequent push by the 41st Army.
Nearly 90 experimental weapons systems were tested over 200 parameters at Kapustin Yar, the Defense Ministry’s central testing range in the Astrakhan Region.
According to Defense Ministry representatives, the Center-2011 war game should become the main indicator of the level of Russian army’s combat readiness within the context of ongoing military reform.
