The American pop star Britney Spears began the European leg of her Femme Fatale world tour this week with two concerts in Russia. She performed on Thursday in the northern capital, and on Saturday at Moscow’s Olimpiisky Arena.

Spears burst onto the Olimpiisky stage following warm-up sets by the Russian pop group Serebro and the American duo Destine & Paris. She opened with a performance of the song, "Hold It Against Me" from her new album, after which Britney shed her silver raincoat, displaying sparkling underwear, her favorite stage costume.

With each costume change, the surprises continued. During the show, the pop star appeared on stage in the guise of an Egyptian queen…

… a motor lady…

… and the American movie star, Marilyn Monroe. Spears borrowed the iconic image of Monroe with a billowing skirt flashing her exposed legs.

A fairly large dance company performed each number along with Spears.

During her 90-minute concert, Spears performed both new songs from her album, "Femme Fatale," and old hits, including "Baby One More Time," "Womanizer," "Gimme More" and others.

As the organizers had promised, Spears brought a real stage show to Russia, with spectacular sets…

… and colorful costumes and lighting effects. The equipment for the show required no less than 30 trucks and over a hundred people to deliver it.

In addition to the planned performances, the show featured a few original, impromptu acts. At both shows, towards the end of a song Spears handcuffed a man from the audience, and climbed onto his shoulders. Photo: Britney Spears performing at Ice Palace, St. Petersburg.
