Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who is expected to take over from Vladimir Putin as prime minister, will enjoy working in the government, Russian Federation Council speaker, Valentina Matviyenko.
Speaking at the annual congress of the ruling United Russia party on Saturday, Medvedev proposed Putin run for president in next year's election and said he would do "practical work in the government."
"I think... Dmitry Anatolyevich will enjoy working in the government," Matviyenko said, adding that it would be easier for Medvedev to deal with his own earlier prepared initiatives on the domestic and international policy.
Matviyenko also hailed the tandem's swap decision, adding that unnecessary political changes would only harm Russia, which needs from 10 to 20 years of gradual development.
The speaker also said that "the statements were made in a right place, at the right time."
