One of Sobyanin’s main objectives as mayor is to resolve the transportation challenges facing the capital.

The general transportation plan includes five distinct goals: the development of public transportation, review of city construction policies, development of a road network and improvement of driving conditions and construction of contemporary parking garages to reduce unauthorized parking.

In December the Moscow mayor said the city’s parks and recreation facilities were nothing to be proud of and instructed authorities to increase the number of outdoor play areas in Moscow courtyards by 150%.

In March the new mayor said that housing courtyards would undergo a massive upgrade.

During his first year on June 2011, Sobyanin re-opened the planetarium after a 17-year reconstruction.
