BP has cleared a first hurdle toward a resumption of deepwater oil drilling exploration in the Gulf of Mexico since the oil spill, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) director Tommy Beaudreau said.
The BOEM has approved BP's supplementary exploration plan to drill up to four wells in the Gulf of Mexico, about 308 kilometers from the Louisiana coast in waters 1,800 meters deep.
“Our review of BP's plan included verification of BP's compliance with the heightened standards that all deepwater activities must meet,” said Beaudreau.
