A sanitation worker in Connecticut claimed on Sunday that he was the lucky one who bought the winning $254 million lottery ticket but lost it, ABC TV channel reported.
The Powerball lottery drawing was held on September 14 but no one has claimed to be the winner of the lucky lottery ticket until now, the TV channel said.
Powerball lottery officials say someone in Fairfield County bought a Powerball ticket matching all six winning numbers. The ticket was reportedly sold at Belltown Superette in Stamford, a store with a reputation for selling winning tickets.
Store owner Suni Patel told ABC that a city sanitation worker had come to the store to tell her that he was the one who had bought the winning ticket at the store but he lost it.
"He says it's his number, but he can't find the ticket, lost the ticket. So I don't know what to say," Patel said.
If that's true and he can find the ticket, he could be the recipient of the largest payout ever in Connecticut. The previous record was a $59.5 million Powerball jackpot in June 2005, ABC said.
