The president had a busy program. After arriving in Honolulu on November 11 (November 12 Moscow time), Medvedev held bilateral meetings with Peru’s president and Australia’s prime minister and attended an informal lunch with business leaders from the Asia-Pacific Region. However, the president found time to take a walk in the Hawaiian city.
This intergovernmental forum was established to improve the economic development of the Asia-Pacific Region. During one session, Dmitry Medvedev assumed the chair of the organization from the U.S.

Security measures taken by the Hawaiian capital for the APEC summit were the strongest since the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. The security restrictions did not allow tourists to feel the hospitality of the city. For several days, the traffic in the city center and to the main beaches was blocked by steel fences, checkpoints and road inspections.
