Saif al-Islam, son of ousted Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, has been arrested on the south of Libya on Saturday, Al Arabiya television said on Saturday, citing Libyan Justice Minister Mohammed Al-Alagi.
In October, Interpol and the International Criminal Court (ICC) have called for Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi to turn himself in. Interpol said both institutions would provide his safe passage to The Hague where he is wanted for crimes against humanity, including murder and persecution.
Gaddafi’s regime was overthrown in October by opposition forces with NATO’s assistance after a seven-month civil war. Gaddafi, who ruled the country for almost 42 years, was captured and killed by rebels near his home town of Sirte on October 20.
