Viktor Vasnetsov and Vasily Vereshchagin paintings brought in a total 3 million pounds ($4.6 million) at a Christie’s auction on Monday.
Vasnetsov’s famous work oil painting, A Bogatyr, was estimated at 300,000 – 500,000 pounds and was sold for 1.1 million pounds. The painting belonged to a family from the U.K. The grandfather of this family was a friend of the artist.
The other highlight of the auction was Vereshchagin’s Crucifixion by the Romans, another oil painting. The painting was estimated at 1.5 million pounds and was sold for 1.7 million pounds.
All proceeds from the sale will be sent to the fund of the Brooklyn Museum that auctioned Vereshchagin’s work.
