Three women rights activists from Africa and the Arab world received the Nobel Peace Prize at a ceremony in Oslo on Saturday.
Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Liberian peace activist Leymah Gbowee and Yemen's pro-democracy campaigner Tawakul Karman were awarded the prize in early October for their "non-violent struggle for the safety of women and for women's rights."
The three women will share the prize of one million euro (about $1.5 million).
The ceremony, attended by King Harald V of Norway, Queen Sonja, Norwegian MPs and cabinet members and foreign guests, is being held at Oslo City Hall. The hall is alive with flowers, mainly yellow and orange orchids.
The celebrations will continue with a torch-lit procession and a Nobel banquet for 250 guests.
A rock concert is scheduled for December 11.
The remaining four Nobel Prizes will be awarded in Stockholm, also on December 10, the day of Alfred Nobel's death.
