A Russian department store will have to remove the English word "sale" from Russian-language advertising materials under a commercial court ruling that upholds an order from the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS), the service told the Russian Legal Information Agency, RAPSI.
The FAS had ordered TsUM, the venerable Central Department Store in downtown Moscow, to pull adverisements containing the word "sale" in October last year, citing the potential for foreign words to mislead customers.
The latest ruling is the third round in the litigation. An appellate commercial court upheld the FAS order in November.
TsUM, founded in 1885, has 60,000 square meters of floor space in its landmark building across the street from the Bolshoi Theater. The Mercury Group, which specializes in luxury product sales, is the majority shareholder.
