Three children and their mother sustained severe burns after a household gas explosion in their house in Russia’s North Caucasus republic of Chechnya, a local emergencies ministry’s spokesman said on Thursday.
He said the emergencies department received information about the blast in the village of Gilyany, in the east of the republic, at 23:00 Moscow time on Wednesday (19:00 GMT) and immediately sent firefighters and rescuers to the scene.
“According to one of the versions, the blast was caused by a gas leak. However, this version has not been yet confirmed,” he said adding that a group of experts continue investigating the scene of the tragic incident.
The children and their mother were taken to a hospital’s burns unit and doctors are currently fighting for their lives, the spokesman added.
