MegaFon, one of the "big three" mobile phone operators in Russia, on Thursday began offering the BlackBerry, a leading wireless platform, to mobile customers in Russia.
BlackBerry is a popular wireless solution enabling its users "to easily access e-mail, phone, text messaging, Internet, organizer and corporate data applications from a single, integrated device," according to its Canadian producer Research In Motion (RIM).
BlackBerry smartphones will initially be available only to Moscow buyers, but in 2012 MegaFon will begin selling the gadget in its regional locations.
Russia's Federal Security Service agreed the service provisions with BlackBerry in November 2007, to confirm they complied with Russian legal requirements.
BlackBerry is now available on wireless networks around the world with over 2.5 million subscribers using BlackBerry services today.
Two other Russian leading mobile operators - MTS and Beeline are already selling Blackberries in Russia.
