Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev on Monday ordered all top government and ministry officials to scrap plans to celebrate the upcoming New Year abroad, the presidential press service reported on Monday.
“Nazarbayev banned all foreign vacations for all top government, ministry and department officials… during New Year and other state holidays,” the press service said.
“They should be celebrated inside the country, with your people. This refers not only to the forthcoming New Year, but in general to all national and state holidays,” Nazarbayev was quoted as telling officials at a meeting.
He also told state agencies and national companies to stop holding expensive events and international conferences as the country tightens its belt.
