Tymoshenko receives medical treatment in prison

Former Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko is now being provided with necessary medical care within the area of the detention facility she is being kept in, Kachanovsky colony, according to National Prison Service of Ukraine (GPSU).

Timoshenko was sentenced to seven years in prison for abuse of authority by signing a gas agreement between Russian Gazprom and Naftogaz of Ukraine in 2009.

 

She has been held in the colony compound since December 30 in the Kharkiv region.

 

"Tymoshenko is being provided with necessary medical care ... She continues to receive medication, as recommended by the Ministry of Health Commission, which examined her on 4 January this year," the GPSU said in a statement.

 

It is reported that experts of the Ministry of Health (MOH) of Ukraine gave the recommendation for further treatment and recommended the "conducting of therapeutic massage and a range of physical therapy and a follow-up checkup by the medical service at her place of her residence."

 

Previously, lawyers of the ex-premier claimed that Tymoshenko's health was deteriorating and that she was not receiving appropriate treatment. At the same time, the press service of the GPSU reported that an offer of rehabilitation treatment had been refused by the ex-minister.
