Egypt’s Islamist parties, the Freedom and Justice Party, the political wing of the Muslim Brotherhood, and the Salafi Nour party have so far secured 71 percent of the votes at the first post-revolution parliamentary elections, the Al-Masry Al-Youm reported on Friday.
According to preliminary results of the third and final round of the Egyptian parliamentary elections, the Freedom and Justice party will occupy 233 seats in Egypt’s 508-seat lower house of parliament and the ultraconservative Salafi Nour party will have 121 seats, the paper reported.
The date of unveiling the official results of the elections, the first after ousting Egypt’s former leader Hosni Mubarak, is still unknown, the paper said.
The elections for the 264-seat upper house of Egyptian parliament, the Shura Council, will begin on January 29.
