Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is against banning the dept buying business but thinks it should be regulated by the law.
“It is senseless to prohibit this kind of business. The purchase of assignment claims has legally existed for several thousand years, since Roman law nobody has prohibited it. It is ridiculous,” Medvedev said.
According to him, the banning of debt buying could lead to criminalization. “Instead of envelopes with a skull, they will nail wreaths to doors. Nothing can be done by banning it but the gap in the legal system should be filled,” he added.
The President called for a discussion on the issue once again if a separate law on debt buying should be developed or amendments should be introduced for existing laws. “But we have to regulate it, otherwise we will face extreme criminal activity,” Medvedev said.
