Russia failed to reach the quarterfinals of the mixed curling competition at the Youth Winter Olympic Games in Austria after losing 3-7 to Italy on Tuesday.
With a record of three wins and four losses, the Russian curlers finished in fifth place in the Red Group, just missing qualification for the next round.
The top four teams from the Red and Blue groups advance to the knockout round.
The first-ever Winter Youth Olympic Games opened Friday in Innsbruck, bringing a thousand 14- to 18-year-old athletes from 70 nations to the Tyrolean capital.
The competition, which runs through January 22, follows the inaugural Summer Youth Games in Singapore in 2010, and medals are up for grabs in seven sports: biathlon, bobsleigh, curling, ice hockey, luge, figure skating and alpine skiing.
