The Russian women team has begun its performance at the 2012 European Water Polo Championship in the Dutch city of Eindhoven with a tough 11-10 victory over the hosts on Wednesday.
With less than three minutes into the game, the Russians scored three goals while the Dutch team answered only with a single netter and the first period ended 3-2 in favor of the Russian team.
The 2008 Olympic champions from the Netherlands pulled themselves together and won the following two periods. But in the fourth period the Russians took the advantage of the power play and scored the winning goal to the great disappointment of the Dutch spectators cheering for their native team to win.
Russia’s next game in Group A, which besides the Netherlands also includes Great Britain and Hungary, will be against the British team on January 20.
