A woman driving a black minivan, with her three friends as passengers, lost control of the car and ploughed into 12 pedestrians in the capital, killing eight and injuring the other four, the Jakarta Post reported on Sunday, referring to police.
Jakarta Traffic Police deputy chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Wahyono said the dead comprised three women, four men and a 2.5-year-old infant, adding that the injured were currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
“We took the female driver and her three friends to the police station for further questioning,” the paper quoted him as saying.
He refused to give any information on the driver’s identity for safety concerns.
In the meantime, several media outlets identified the driver as a 29-year-old Apriani Susanti who was apparently drunk.
