A poll held by Russia's leading opinion pollster VTsIOM prior to St. Valentine’s Day has revealed that the majority of Russians (53 percent) do not oppose office romances.
“The majority of those polled do not see anything wrong if a man and a woman working on one team are romantically involved," the pollster said.
However, only 4 percent of those polled admitted to having a workplace romance.
“Usually people between 18 and 24 start romances at work (8 percent), as well as representatives of business (11 percent) and state employees (13 percent),” the pollster said.
Sociologists also revealed that 46 percent of Russians consider office romances to be short-term relationships, usually with few serious consequences.
Those who have had office romances are more positive about this kind of relationship and say romances could “improve the atmosphere in the office” and even lead to “new families.”
The poll surveyed 1,600 people in 46 Russian regions on February 4-5, 2012. The margin of error is no more than 3.4 percent.
