CSKA Moscow are expecting a record crowd of 70,000 at the Luzhniki Stadium for Tuesday's Champions League match against Real Madrid, Moscow police said Monday.

The record attendance for a CSKA match at Russia’s national stadium is 65,000, set at a league game against Spartak Moscow in 2007, according to UEFA.

“The organizers anticipate that the number of spectators will amount to 70,000 people,” Moscow police said in a statement.

Spartak recorded 75,000 at Luzhniki for their 1-0 victory over Royal Antwerp in the first leg of their 1993 European Cup Winners' Cup semifinal, while Russia's 2-1 win over England in 2007 drew a crowd of 77,000.

More than 100,000 people attended the opening ceremony of the 1980 Olympics at Luzhniki, Russia's only UEFA five-star football arena.

Upwards of 3,000 police are being deployed for Tuesday's knockout round first leg, the first time CSKA and Real have clashed in European competition.
