Second seed Roger Federer dumped Mikhail Youzhny out of the Dubai Open quarterfinals on Thursday, outclassing the Russian to win 6-3, 6-4.
The Swiss found little resistance in Youzhny, who had been enjoying a rousing start to 2012, and sets up a semifinal with either Juan Martin del Potro or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at the $1.7 million event.
Youzhny, who took his first tournament since 2010 by winning the Zagreb Open last month, beat America's Mardy Fish 6-2, 7-6 in the previous round and walked over Richard Gasquet in his first match after the Frenchman retired through injury.
Australian Open semifinalist Andy Murray earlier dispatched Tomas Berdych 6-3, 7-5, and plays either Melbourne champion Novak Djokovic or Janko Tipsarevic in the semifinals.
