A 6.4-magnitude earthquake jolted Northeastern Japan on Tuesday but no casualties or damages have been reported so far, Japan's Meteorological Agency said.
The epicenter of the quake, which struck at 08:00 p.m. local time (11:00 GMT) on Tuesday, was located at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles) east of Iwate Prefecture.
No tsunami alert has been issued, the agency reported.
Last year Japan was hit by a massive 9.0-magnitude quake which caused a tsunami, claiming almost 15,000 lives and triggering a number of explosions at the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant. The tsunami caused a partial meltdown at three of the nuclear plant’s reactors. Radiation leaked into the atmosphere, soil and seawater, becoming the world's worst nuclear disaster after Chernobyl.
According to scientists, Japan will need at least 30 years to recover fully from the nuclear catastrophe.
