St. Petersburg investigators said a suitcase stuffed with a dead body was found in the city on Thursday, the second such incident in Russia in four days.
"Early on March 29, 2012, a suitcase was found at a playground… containing the body of an unidentified elderly woman. There were no visible signs of violence,” the city’s investigation department said in a statement.
Though the cause of the woman’s death is yet to be established, a criminal case was launched on murder charges.
A similar grim discovery was made in northern Moscow on Monday, when a suitcase containing a woman's dismembered body parts was found near a garbage container. Other parts of her body were found in the Moscow satellite city of Balashikha.
Police detained the woman’s friend on suspicion of committing the murder.
