Anzhi defender Christopher Samba says he doesn't deserve his player-of-the-month award for March.
Samba got the supporters' accolade for his first month of play at the Dagestan-based club, which he joined in February from Blackburn Rovers.
He played all 90 minutes of all four games in March, which saw Guus Hiddink's men win twice, draw once and lose once.
The 28-year-old was modest about those performances.
"From my point of view, the truth is that there are lots of other guys who deserve this award more than me. I'll consider this a debt, we still have a lot of work to do," he said in website comments.
His third game, a 1-0 defeat to Lokomotiv Moscow, was tainted by a fan who threw a banana at him as the teams were heading into the dressing rooms after the final whistle.
Samba admitted that was a tough weekend, coming a day after his friend in Bolton's Fabrice Muamba suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch in a cup game against Tottenham Hotspur. Muamba appears to be making a good recovery.
In both of Anzhi's defeats this year, Samba appeared to be marking the opposing player who scored the winning goal; Denis Glushakov in the Lokomotiv game, and Obafemi Martins in the weekend 1-0 loss to Rubin Kazan.
The team lie seventh in the Russian Premier League, 15 points off Zenit St. Petersburg's lead with seven games remaining.
Samba, meanwhile, praised the passion of Anzhi fans.
"Even in the away games we feel their crazy support. Thank you all."
Fellow defender Yuri Zhirkov and midfielder Jucilei da Silva came second and third in the fans' poll, respectively.
