To lubricate the gangways, almost 23 tons of grease, locomotive oil and liquid soap were used while launching the ship. Belfast authorities and the actual owner of the ship, John Pierpont Morgan, attended the official launching ceremony.
After Titanic was launched, the construction works were continued. Various equipment, including steam engines, condenses and turbines had to be installed.
On April 2, 1912 Titanic ran trials during which the condition of the equipment installed on the ship was checked. The trials only lasted for a few hours and were absolutely insufficient, according to some experts.
