A military court in Tripoli charged 20 Ukrainian nationals with aiding troops supporting deposed Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Oleksandr Dykusarov said on Thursday.

A total of 22 Ukrainian specialists, who worked at Libyan oil facilities, were detained by Transitional National Council forces last September. The Ukrainians were accused of engaging in hostilities on Gaddafi’s side and were held under house arrest for more than six months.

"Our citizens were charged with carrying out equipment maintenance for the benefit of the former regime of Gaddafi,” Dykusarov said.

The trial began on Wednesday. All Ukrainians pleaded not guilty.

The next court session will be held on April 9.
