As part of the anti-flood campaign ice on the river is blasted and covered with coal dust, which attracts the sunlight and melts it more quickly. Also, the embankments are strengthened, and river mouths are cleared.
The most difficult situation is in Saratov Region where over 100 houses are flooded. Nearly 300 people have been evacuated in Samara Region and Tatarstan. Photo: A flooded house at Sukhaya Vyazovka in Samara Region.
An emergency was declared in one of the districts of Vologda Region over the flooding. The high water levels enable ice floes to damage supports for an elevated gas pipeline, cutting off supplies to nearly 750 people.
The flood situation was also critical in Bashkortostan and in some areas of the Southern Federal District, as Gennady Yeliseyev, Deputy Director of the Russian Hydrometeorology Center, reported on April 11.
