The World Bank’s executive directors on Monday selected U.S. national Dr. Jim Yong Kim as the new president, the bank reported.
The president also serves as Chair of the Boards of Directors of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the International Development Association (IDA).
Dr. Kim, currently President of Dartmouth College, will assume office for a five-year term on July 1, 2012.
“The Board expressed its deep gratitude for [outgoing] Mr. Robert B. Zoellick’s outstanding leadership and his dedication to reducing poverty in its member countries, the core mandate of the World Bank Group,” the bank said in a statement posted on its website.
“We all look forward to working with Dr. Kim when he assumes his responsibilities,” the executive directors said.
