Police have recovered a man’s body and a half-burned U.S. passport from an abandoned garage in the Russian Urals city of Yekaterinburg, the Investigative Committee reported on Tuesday.
The man is believed to have died from a stab wound in his neck and traumatic brain injuries. The body was found handcuffed.
The photo in the passport, which was discovered next to the body, has burnt, making it impossible to immediately establish whether the document belonged to the victim, the report said.
Police opened a murder case. The U.S. Consulate General in Yekaterinburg has been informed about the discovery.
