Southeast Asian nations and post-Soviet countries are key suppliers of fake goods to the Russian market, the head of the Main Administration for Combating Economic Crimes said on Wednesday.

Southeast Asian nations and post-Soviet countries are key suppliers of fake goods to the Russian market, the head of the Main Administration for Combating Economic Crimes said on Wednesday.

In an interview with RIA Novosti, Denis Sugrobov suggested that knockoffs of famous brands, names and logos get into Russia mostly from Southeast Asia, including China, Hong Kong, Singapore and India, as well as Bulgaria, Poland, Ukraine, and Turkey.

Fake items manufactured in Russia account for a tiny share of the market, mainly food products and CDs.

Bogus textile and light industry products account for up to 37 percent of Russia's gross retail turnover, while the market in counterfeit cosmetics and perfumes, household chemicals, food tins, dairy products, beverages and confectionery is put at 15 percent to 30 percent.
