At least 11 militants have been killed in the North Caucasus republics of Dagestan and Chechnya in the past 24 hours, the National Antiterrorism Committee said on Monday.
Earlier in the day the committee said that nine militants had been killed. Two more have been killed in Russia's volatile North Caucasus.
One gunman was killed in a firefight with security forces on Sunday near the Dagestani village of Kakamakhi in the Sergokalinsk district.
Another was killed, the NAC said, when he refused to stop at a checkpoint on a highway and opened fire on police.
Two more militants were killed in a gunfight on Monday in a forest in Dagestan’s Karabudakhkent district.
Two insurgents were killed on Sunday in Chechnya, the NAC said.
“These operations point to the continuously intensifying effort by law enforcement agencies to neutralize terrorist threats,” the NAC said.
