Russian football authorities have pledged to introduce an online system where visitors can vote on referees’ mistakes, although, unfortunately for aggrieved fans, it will only be open to the referees themselves, the Russian Football Union said Thursday.
The system will be rolled out first in southern Russia, and will allow referees to view disputed incidents in Russian Premier League games and vote on the correct decision, said Roberto Rosetti, head of the Russian Football Union's refereeing department.
"This unique channel cannot be compared to anything else in the world," Rosetti said.
"We will organize polls on every disputed episode. In the five days we will collect opinions and afterwards the refereeing department will announce its own conclusion on each of the cases.”
He did not specify whether the department’s ruling or the poll results would be made public.
The Russian leagues have long faced accusations of match-fixing, often directed at referees, although the allegations are rarely proven.
