Moscow rivals Spartak and Dynamo played out a 1-1 draw in the Russian Premier League on Wednesday, with neither seizing the opportunity to charge clear in second place.

Dynamo's German striker Kevin Kuranyi opened the scoring after just three minutes, taking a pass from Cristian Noboa and firing into the corner.

The hosts equalized two minutes into the second half through Brazilian forward Ari, who slotted home from 10 yards after defenders gave him time to pick his spot.

Dynamo retain second place, which carries a Champions League spot, but remain just a single point ahead of CSKA Moscow, who play Lokomotiv Moscow later, and Spartak.

Zenit, the runaway leaders, secured the title with three games to spare last week.

Spartak's defense crumbled moments after the kick off, when Spanish defender Rodri lost the ball in the center, allowing Dynamo to put together the move that created the opener.

Soon after Hungarian winger Balázs Dzsudzsák nearly doubled the lead, hitting the post from directly a corner.

Spartak seized the initiative, but first the Nigerian striker Emmanuel Emenike and then the Russian starlet Artem Dzyuba missed their respective headers.

Toward the end of the first half Dynamo midfielder Alexander Samedov blew a clear chance, hitting the bar after a through pass from Zvjezdan Misimovic in the penalty area.

Spartak responded with an early goal in the first half. After two rebounds Ari finally managed to put the ball away, leaving five Dynamo defenders helpless.

Several minutes later Emenike went one on one with Anton Shunin, but was unable to outplay goalkeeper.

In added time the team swapped dangerous attacks.

First Argentinean defender Leandro Fernandez cleared Aiden McGeady's free kick, and a minute later Spartak goalkeeper Artem Rebrov denied the free-kick of Alexander Kokorin.

Ukraine's Andriy Voronin spent the whole match on the bench after playing 70 minutes for the reserves on Tuesday. The 32-year old forward said he asked to play for the reserves because he wasn't getting enough playing time with the seniors.
