One person has been injured in an ammunition depot fire in the Primorsk Territory, Russia’s Emergencies Ministry said on Friday
The Defense Ministry’s ammunition dump storing 100-mm shells is located 280 km northeast of Vladivostok in Russia’s Far East, and seven kilometers away from Sungach, the nearest settlement. While firefighting units are trying to extinguish the blaze, local officials are evacuating 700 residents from Sungach and the nearby village of Dukhovskoye.
“According to preliminary data, no one has been killed, but one has been injured and taken to hospital” the Emergencies Ministry said.
All in all, rescuers evacuated more than 1,800 people from four residential areas located near the depot, the Emergencies Ministry said later in the day.
Last June, blasts shook an ammunition depot in Russia's Urals republic of Udmurtia; it left 95 people injured, the republican health ministry said.
