Former Manchester United winger Andrei Kanchelskis has been fired as coach of Russian third-division side FC Ufa, he told RIA Novosti on Sunday.

The 43-year-old said his contract stipulated Ufa had to finish the season in first place, securing promotion into the second-tier Football National League.

They lie second, five points behind Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk with three games remaining, meaning the goal is still achievable, but that was not enough for the club's board, Kanchelskis said.

"I was told that I didn't perform the task and they terminated the contract," Kanchelskis said.

"So the board made a decision. The task was written in my contract clearly - qualification for the FNL. We still have chances, as there are three matches ahead, but the board is of a different opinion."

Kanchelskis, who will be succeeded at Ufa by his former Russia teammate Igor Kolyvanov, is planning to continue his coaching career, he said.

"In Moscow, along with the agents, I will look for a job."

Kanchelskis took over at Ufa in 2010 after receiving his UEFA PRO license.

During his time in Britain, Kanchelskis became the only player to score in the Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow derbies, and won two Premier League titles and the FA Cup with Manchester United, all between 1991 and 2002.
