A fire raged through a village in the Russian North Caucasus republic of Dagestan destroying nearly half of the houses and injuring six people, a spokesman for the local Emergencies Ministry’s department said on Friday.
The fire in the village of Khutrakh broke out at around 6:00 p.m. Moscow time (14:00 GMT) on Wednesday and was put out only at around midnight.
The residential area consisted of 142 houses with a population of 560 people, including 75 children, and the fire destroyed 60 houses.
Some 200 people became homeless after the fire and were temporarily hosted in nearby villages.
