The arrangements for the Russian Super Cup have been thrown into disarray after a senior Russian Premier League official told RIA Novosti on Saturday the date could be changed just hours after it was announced.
Officials said earlier Saturday that the season-opening game would be played in Samara on July 15, but the league’s executive director Sergei Cheban said it may yet be moved forward by a day due to uncertainty over TV arrangements.
“It’s possible that the match will happen on Saturday [July 14]. But the date [July 15] is still official,” Cheban said.
“We’ll look at the calendar, at the possibilities for television, and then make a decision after assessing the situation in detail.”
League champions Zenit St. Petersburg will play Russian Cup holders Rubin Kazan in the tie, before the 2012-13 Russian league season starts with a full round of games July 22.
