World No. 1 Victoria Azarenka turned sardonic when asked how she would pull herself together after her shock French Open defeat to Dominika Cibulkova.

"I'm going to kill myself," she snarked after her straight-sets 6-2, 7-6 (4) fourth-round loss to the Slovakian 15th seed. "This tournament is over for me. What's to recover from? It's (time) to really look forward and improve. That's it."

Cibulkova controlled the first set and was a break up in the second before Azarenka launched a comeback, only for the Slovakian to hold her nerve in the tiebreak for a famous win.

"Pretty much everything" went wrong for her during the game, the Australian Open champion added after her fourth defeat of the season.

"Before, I was at least making something happen myself," Azarenka said. "Today I couldn't do it. All I could hope for is for her mistake. I couldn't make anything myself today."

Azarenka can lose her top spot in WTA rankings if second-ranked Maria Sharapova reaches the tournament final.

Sharapova is to meet Czech player Klara Zakopalova, ranked 50th in the world, who pulled off a surprise straight-sets win over Russia’s 22 seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
