Interim WBA cruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev is in talks to fight full WBA champion Guillermo Jones in Russia, Lebedev’s promoter Vlad Hrunov said Wednesday.

The fight would be Lebedev’s second shot at a full title, after he lost to German fighter Marco Huck in a bout for the WBO belt in 2010.

Hrunov is talking to Panamanian fighter Jones’ promoter Don King, he said.

“Regarding Lebedev, talks are going on with Don King about the possibility of holding a fight with Guillermo Jones,” Hrunov said.

“We’re still discussing that fight. We propose holding it in Russia.”

Alexander Povetkin, also managed by Hrunov, will defend his WBA regular heavyweight title against Hasim Rahman next month.

Povetkin has a new coach, former undisputed light welterweight champion Kostya Tszyu, for the start of his sparring after previous Alexander Zimin was forced to withdraw, Hrunov said.

“Povetkin has a new coach, Konstantin Borisovich [Tszyu]. Alexander Zimin got ill, that was the reason. But Kostya is a man who is capable of motivating.”

Lebedev’s defeat to Huck is the only mark on an otherwise spotless 25-1 record, with 18 wins by knockout, while 40-year-old Jones has a 38-3-2 record, with 30 knockout wins.

Povetkin is unbeaten in 24 fights, with 16 stoppages, while Rahman has lost seven and drawn two of his 60 fights, with 50 wins and one bout ruled no contest.
