New KHL team Donbass Donetsk has signed Swedish national team forward Fredrik Pettersson, the Ukrainian team said Friday.
Donbass did not specify the length of the contract with Pettersson.
“The Donbass hockey club has signed a contract with the Swedish national team forward Fredrik Pettersson,” Donbass said on the team website.
Pettersson spent last season with Swedish team Frolunda, where he scored 17 goals and made 26 assists in 60 games.
He has spent three seasons in North American junior hockey with the Calgary Hitmen and the Chicago Wolves, but failed to break into the NHL.
Pettersson played seven games and scored one goal and one assist for Sweden at the 2010 world championship in Germany, when Sweden finished third.
