Poland's motivation from playing at home could be enough to beat Russia in their second Euro 2012 game Tuesday, ex-Poland goalkeeper Wojciech Kowalewski told R-Sport on Sunday.

The Poles failed to win against Greece on Friday, drawing 1-1 after scoring the opener in a match where both sides finished with 10 men.

Russia then took the lead in Group A after a 4-1 demolition of the Czech Republic in the day's second game.

"The Polish squad can beat the Russian team due to their great desire," Kowalewski said.

"In football everything is possible, the favorites don't always win. We hope to beat the Russian squad."

Both teams are likely to qualify from the group, Kowalewski said.

"The Russian national team will get out of the group for sure. I hope the second team from our group to be in the quarterfinals will be the Polish squad," he said.

Kowalewski, 35, retired in February after a 16-year career in which he picked up 11 caps for Poland.

He spent five years playing in Russia, including 94 appearances for Spartak Moscow between 2003 and 2007, during which time Spartak twice finished second in the Russian Premier League.
