* China will send its first woman into space on Saturday when astronaut Liu Yan and two other crew members blast off on an upgraded Long March 2F rocket from the Jiuquan rocket launch site, in northwest China, at 6:37 p.m. local time (2:37 p.m. Moscow time), China's manned space program deputy director Wu Ping said.

* The United States has pledged to help Georgia develop its air defenses and coastal surveillance capabilities, following a meeting in the South Caucasus nation.

*Italian energy giant Eni has entered a project to produce shale gas in the Lviv region of western Ukraine amid Kiev's attempts to find alternatives to Russian natural gas, the company said.

* France is ready to supply communications equipment to the Syrian opposition and to individuals and is ready to make the shipments on its own, Foreign Ministry spokesman Bernard Valero said.

*EurAsEC, a regional economic grouping of ex-Soviet republics led by Russia, has disbursed the third tranche of a $3-billion bailout loan to Belarus, a spokesperson of National Bank of Belarus said.

* Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov denied that Russia was conducting talks with other nations on an exit plan for Syria's embattled President Bashar al-Assad.

* President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on Friday creating a Presidential Commission for strategic development of the oil and gas industry and ecological protection, his press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.
