Basketball's Eurocup winner is set to abandon the final four system from next season, organizers said Saturday.
The Eurocup, the continent's second-tier basketball competition after the Euroleague, had used the U.S.-style final four since 2008.
Shareholders must approve the new format.
"The proposed competition system for the 2012-13 season that will require approval by the ECA Shareholders Meeting on July 5, 2012 will include a single game final, home and away semi-finals, and will not include a Qualifying Round," a statement on the event's website said.
The tournament's qualifying round has also been abolished, the statement said.
As a result, 25 of the 32 teams will get a Eurocup spot based on their performance in their national competition, while other seven spots will be taken by teams that lose in the Euroleague qualifying round.
