*Mohamed Morsi was sworn in before Egypt’s highest court in Cairo as the country’s first freely elected president to succeed Hosni Mubarak who was ousted 16 months ago in a popular uprising.

*The participants in the Geneva talks support creation of a transitional government in Syria in which all forces participate, UN and Arab League special envoy Kofi Annan said.

*The air crew and passengers of a local Chinese flight foiled a hijacking attempt in the far west Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, with at least seven people injured in the incident, the Chinese media reported on Saturday, referring to local police.
