Roger Federer reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals on Monday after defeating Xavier Malisse, ranked 75 in the world.
The Swiss third seed was taken to four sets by the Belgian, crucially winning six of seven break points compared with just. three of 11 by Malisse for a 7-6 (1), 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 win.
In the next round, six-time Wimbledon champion Federer will face Mikhail Youzhny, who battled past Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin, ranked 39 in the world, in a five-set marathon.
Russia’s 26th seed took it on his first match point to finally see off his opponent 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 7-5.
At Wimbledon 2011, Federer was able to upset 30-year-old Russian in the fourth round.
